Ma Bête (my beast) is one of ERIS’s three debut fragrances, along with Belle de Jour and Night Flower. This trio, the “Beauty and the Beast” collection, explores the fine line between elegance and eroticism. Ma Bête, in particular, amplifies the use of animal-inspired notes for a feisty, even shocking effect.

A collision between the floral and the animalic, Ma Bête combines a regal Tunisian Neroli and Egyptian Jasmine with spices and a 50 percent overdose of perfumer Antoine Lie’s own animalic cocktail, exploring the fine line between elegance and eroticism.

Other than a touch of neroli (the bright-eyed distillation of bitter orange flowers) and a dusting of nutmeg spice, this fragrance comes across as a barely tamed composition of musk and civet essences, like leather and fur exposed to the elements. There’s something primal lurking in this bottle, an urge to hunt — and be hunted. Ma Bête dares us to let out our wilder side, and to remember that everything worth having is worth some risk.
