Once upon a time, Isabelle Larignon tells us, there was an ancient dragon who retired to a misty mountain for the later years of his life. That mountain stood at the edge of a tea plantation. Looking down from his perch, the dragon became enamored of his view of the tea shrubs’ delicate white flowers and vibrant green leaves. Acting as their guardian, he protected the plantings from harsh weather and dried them with his fiery breath after monsoon rains. Larignon’s tale might be a fantasy but, as any tea-lover knows, the sensory delight of a good cup of tea is very real. Milky Dragon is inspired by milky oolong (Jin Xuan), a variety of tea also called “blue oolong.” This is a tea-centered perfume and, just like the best tea varieties, it’s quietly complex. The woody tang of Milky Dragon’s black-tea heart is balanced by a swirl of cream and a drydown with notes of stone fruits like apricot and black currant as well as a subtle hazelnut note. Larignon has even incorporated a fleeting hint of greenness, just to remind us that tea starts its life as a high-altitude plant in full leaf. Take a sip…or a sniff.
