Shower & Smoke starts off with the soapy-clean effect of aldehydes (a type of aromachemical that adds crispness and clarity) and the brightness of neroli (a distillation of orange blossom with a particularly uplifting quality.) There’s also a stimulating hint of ginger root in Shower & Smoke, if you wait for it, and some subtle cardamom to add to that spicy warmth. This composition isn’t just the shower itself, after all. It’s the memory of a person stepping out of the water and perhaps reaching for a cigarette to enjoy while finishing the ritual of getting ready for the day (or night).
Take another breath, and you’ll detect an impression of tobacco smoke shaped from woody notes like cedar and guaiac. These woods, and the earthy touch of vetiver, often give a conventionally “masculine” impression in fragrance. However, perfumer Cristiano Canali’s light touch with these basenotes makes Shower & Smoke pleasingly all-gender. It’s a scent to enjoy on your own or to share with someone close to you.
